Overview & Mission
Partnering with local school systems, the Greater Kingsport Family YMCA offers a safe, structured environment after the school bell, emphasizing homework support, enrichment, character development, creative play and a healthy snack — all designed to help youth realize who they are and what they can achieve.
Students in kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to join our YMCA Afterschool, a licensed child care program that takes place in 22 schools in the Sullivan County, Kingsport City and Hawkins County School systems, Monday-Friday from 3:00 pm-6:00 pm. Children receive a healthy snack from our Y Feeding Program, participate in STEM activities, games, sports, arts and crafts, homework help time, and more, all supervised by responsible, caring Y staff team members. The Y maintains low ratios to ensure all children receive individualized attention within their small groups.
Grant Support & Community Funding
Backed by state and federal grants, as well as contributions from community partners, the program operates with financial assistance at select sites, ensuring broadened access and quality programming. These funds make it possible to provide academic support and enrichment programs to the schools we serve that meet the at-risk qualifying factors of the grants. Parties interested in partnering to assist in meeting academic and social-emotional goals within this program model may contact Rochelle Wilking, VP of Child Care, at [email protected].
