GIVING HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

Y on Wheels is a program we offer at the YMCA where we go out into under-served areas in our community to bring the Y to the kids and families living there. We have partnered with Kingsport City Schools and KHRA to determine which neighborhoods to go and visit once a week for a couple hours. Y on Wheels offer snacks, games, activities, STEM activities and more each day. Our feeding program at the Y also offers meals we are able to send home with the kids. We provide life skills training curriculum into our visits to help children learn how to manage emotions, control their behavior, better communication, and more. We offer monthly parenting workshops on a variety of topics, as well as youth classes for our participants. We also send home toiletry kits and food bags to make a complete meal once a month. Our goal is to positively impact the children living in these communities while providing resources, knowledge, encouragement and essentials in hopes of supporting them to build a healthier lifestyle in all aspects.

A Year In Review | 2023 Statistics and Highlights

+ Y on Wheels serves 5 neighborhoods in Kingsport including:
Reedy Pointe, Magnolia Pointe, Hillside Point, Stone Crest and Borden Park.

+ 657 kids and adults were positively impacted through weekly visits, parent workshops and youth classes.

+ 550 kids across 5 locations were served a meal in 2022 with an estimated total food cost of $17,062 for the year.

+ 5,250 Meals were provided to kids through Y on Wheels.

+ $7,874.51 in school supplies were provided to families at the Back To School Bash Y on Wheels Event.
