Greater Kingsport Family YMCA

Meeting Community Needs

We are a not-for-profit charity that is governed by a board of community volunteers. The Y receives its tax-exempt status from the government because it provides for important community needs.

Our work is summed up in just eight words: We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities. Everything we do is dedicated to that purpose.

The Greater Kingsport Family YMCA provides programs and activities that the community wants and needs. The YMCA will never turn anyone away due to inability to pay.

Our YMCA child care makes it possible for moms and dads to go to work knowing their youngsters are in an environment where they will not only be cared for but also be taught positive character-building values-caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Furthermore, 27% of the families in our program are receiving some level of financial assistance and have household incomes less than $30,000-most of those are single parents with incomes of less than $20,000.

We support families of special needs children through special care based on their individual needs in all our programs.

The Y provides positive role models for teens in opportunities that help them develop self-esteem and leadership skills through service learning.

We are committed to helping all children in our programs read at grade level by 3 rd grade and have implemented a reading initiative to that end.

We build community. Our programs are for people of all ages, incomes, religions, races, and abilities.

The Greater Kingsport Family YMCA is more than just a collection of programs and activities. The YMCA provides family-centered, value-focused programs to build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
