It's a New Year! Take the 1st Step!

December 26, 2016

January. New Year’s Resolutions. A fresh start. Maybe lose a couple of pounds? It seems very natural for January 1st to evoke a desire in many to “change their life.” It’s a fresh start and a time to hit the reset button in your journey toward living healthier. The Kingsport Y is here to provide tools to help you kick off your year in a way that fits you best. (Of course, every day at the Y is suitable for a reset if you need to start over!)

Tools of Prevention for a Deadly Disease

November 11, 2016

Odds are everyone has at least one friend with prediabetes or diabetes, a disease that produces more than $245 billion in medical costs in the United States each year. Currently, 29 million Americans have diabetes and 86 million have prediabetes yet only about 9 million know they have it. While diabetes has no cure, prediabetes is a potentially reversible condition. Did you hear that? Prediabetes may be reversible; diabetes has no cure. Studies have shown that people with prediabetes can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes by making some lifestyle changes.

Building Healthier Kids through YMCA Afterschool

July 16, 2016

Summer is already almost over, which means it’s time to start thinking about where your kids might need to be in the afternoons during the school year! As the short summer comes to a close, parents often find themselves looking for a safe, engaging, and fun option for their kids during those after school hours. At Y Afterschool, kids have the opportunity to experience physical and engaging activities that encourage them to make friends, have fun, and get active!

Do You Love Your Comfort Zone?

June 1, 2016

We all have comfort zones in our life, but have you wondered if you’re still in love with yours or if there’s more for you? At the Y, we work hard to offer you the resources and guidance to improve your health and wellness and expand your boundaries, so you can lead the fullest life possible; meeting you at your level and at ANY age. One way the Y goes the extra mile is by making personal training an option for reaching your wellness goals, no matter how large or small. We all need the advice of an expert sometimes, as well as the personal attention that comes with a trainer or coach. Personal training at the Y is about taking you to the next level in your wellness journey, but maybe in different ways than you thought possible.
