GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES

Group exercise helps create accountability, encourages new friendships, motivates, and enables growth in the YMCA family. Group exercise classes are a great way to become involved and have fun exercising with others! In fact, the number one reason people stick with a workout routine is due to accountability with another person. Best of all, both men and women enjoy almost every class opportunity, making it truly open and welcoming to every person. Group exercise classes are offered as a part of membership and participation is on a first come, first served basis.

July Group Ex Schedule

Click on the individual Group Ex categories below for a complete list of class offerings.

HIIT, Interval:

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) or Interval classes are a total body, heart pumping, aerobic and strength conditioning workout. This interval-based class combines full-body strength training with high intensity cardio bursts designed to tone your body, improve your endurance and clear your mind before the busy days get started. Modifications for all fitness levels are provided, as in all classes.  Tabata intervals will follow a specific format of 20 seconds of all-out work, 10 seconds of rest, repeated 8 times for 4 minutes total.

Cardio Zumba®, Quake, Hip Hop Dance:

Ditch the workout and join the original dance-fitness party! With dance classes, you can just lose yourself in the music and find yourself in shape.  Dance workout classes feature exotic rhythms and high-energy international beats. Before you know it, you’ll be getting fit and your energy levels will be soaring.  Try out Line Dancing, Zumba®, Hip Hop or our very own high energy dance craze, QUAKE, or Quick Unbelievable Aerobic Kinetic Energy.

Cycling:

Indoor cycling classes or “Spinning” classes use light and music settings to create an energized atmosphere.  Instructors guide participants through workout phases. Warm-up, steady up tempo cadences, sprints, climbs, cool-downs, etc.  You control resistance on your bike to make the pedaling as easy or difficult as you choose. Constant adjustment is normal.  All you'll need is workout clothes, a towel, and a water bottle.  Stationary bikes have toe clips so you can wear tennis shoes. But our pedals also work with SPD cleats.  This is the only type of class that requires registration.  You can do so beginning 30 minutes prior to class start sign at the Front Desk, receiving a bracelet that you must wear in class.

Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi:

Calm the mind and spirit with our variety of Yoga, Tai Chi, and Pilates classes.  These classes will focus on deep muscle stretching, and in some cases, powerful poses and exercises to improve balance and muscle strength and flexibility.  We offer a variety of class types including:  Yoga, Gentle Flow Yoga, Power Flow Yoga, Yoga Lite, Restorative Yoga, Pilates, Pilates Fusion, Yogalates, Piyo, Tai Chi, and more.  Please check a current schedule for complete descriptions of each class and format.  All mats/props are provided at the Y.

Strength Training:

Work your muscles in every way possible in this class designed to build strength, add definition, increase your bone density, and decrease your body fat by increasing your lean muscle. Research has proven that by adding lean muscle to the body you can speed up your metabolism and burn more calories when you work out and at rest. You will use hand weights, plate loaded barbells, tubing and your own body weight to change the shape of your body. No muscle gets neglected in this class!  Utilizing only strength based exercises, little to no cardio will be completed.  We also offer RIP, which is similar to Les Mills Bodypump®…which is a pre-choreographed barbell class which changes every 3 months.

Lite Classes & Senior Fitness:

Looking for a “back to basics” approach, or little to no impact?  Check out one of our many “Lite” classes. Perfect for members that are new or returning to exercise, or who may be unsure about a specific class or format!

Are you a senior looking for fun, fitness and community? Try our SilverSneakers® Fitness classes. These classes allow you to get fit the way you want, at your convenience.
