Message from Board President

The Y has great programs to build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.  We know this because we are asked to partner with other organizations to do the same.

• The City of Kingsport has requested the YMCA manage the Kingsport Aquatic Center that should be operational in 2012.  See below on progress.
• The Kingsport City School system has partnered with the YMCA for this year’s Day Camp and Teen Camp programs.  This was initiated from requests from parents who are very satisfied with all of our child care programs.
• The Y is partnering with Crazy 8’s and Performance Medicine to sponsor the  8 to the 8’s for Funfest.  Eight teams of 2 and two individual teams are competing to lose the highest weight percentage from May 23rd-July 17th through planned nutrition and exercise programs.  Their final challenge will be completing the Crazy 8’s race.

New Center Update:

The Greater Kingsport YMCA Board and the Kingsport Board of Mayor and Alderman have approved the contractual agreement for our YMCA to operate the Kingsport Aquatic Center upon completion.  Our Y will be leasing the land from the City and we will be building our own YMCA facility attached to the Aquatic Center.   The design work should be complete this fall and submitted for bid as the City begins its wetland remediation effort which must be approved prior to ground breaking.  We will be sharing more on the design work and timing as it progresses. 

We are excited about what we are doing to build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities!  Our goal is to offer quality services from Afterschool to Day Camp, from family fitness to swimming lessons and beyond.  In addition, we do so regardless of a family's ability to pay.  For more information about our financial assistance program, please call us or check out our Financial Assistance page on the website.
