I remember vividly the doctor telling me that I was not only borderline diabetic, but also had extremely high blood pressure for someone my age (22 at the time). I had gone to the doctor for something routine, but hearing that from the doctor was my “ah ha” moment. 318 pounds. How could I weigh 318 pounds? I avoided the scale over the years, but this number might as well have read 1,000 pounds for the effect it would have on the rest of my life. I took one step at a time and now I’ve changed my life and am in my dream job!
Even heading into the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, it’s still always a good time to start making baby steps toward building a Healthy Family Home.Every family can be a healthy family. By focusing your family’s efforts to live healthier around the Y’s pillars of a healthy family home and taking small steps using the information and tools we provide, your family will soon be feeling stronger and living healthier.
Birthdays are for celebrating and at the Y we’re looking forward to more of our own and want you to celebrate yours as well! This month the YMCA in Kingsport is celebrating 30 years of serving our community and are so thankful for the healthy years we’ve had to impact kids, adults and families through Afterschool and Day Camp programs, activities and programs for kids with special needs, and health and wellness initiatives for all ages.
Healthy living through physical activity is central to the Y’s cause. The YMCA’s Group Exercise programs are fun and provide interactive ways to engage individuals in a supportive group setting, enhancing social bonds and strengthening community.
